Monze, L6

This fall took place in Zambia on October 5, 1950, at ~4:20 am local time.  Sonic effects were heard over an area approximately 260 kilometers across (over 50,000km²!), and a blinding fireball was seen over an even wider area.

While looking for information on the Monze meteorite, I was surprised to find a website devoted to the area known as Monze — with a photo of this very 50.7 gram cut stone featured at the top of a page!  See the Guide to Monze, per the Monze Education Fund.

A thorough description of the fall can be read here: The Monze Meteorite
