El Burro, IIAB

The El Burro meteorite is a historic find from a very remote area of Coahuila, Mexico.  The area is still almost completely devoid of permanent human settlements; only one small ranch — Rancho El Burro — is located within five miles of the find site.   The meteorite was discovered in 1939, and its recovery is described in E.P. Henderson’s monograph.  This ~4 gram specimen came from an older mineral collection, and bears Nininger number 469.8.
